About the Site

I started this site for 3 main reasons:

1. I wanted to learn HTML
2. I have a large collection of links I frequently use
3. I bought a digital camera last summer ('01) and want to show off my pictures

I found that learning HTML code was not difficult at all, and moved onto internet scripting languages such as Perl and PHP. I like to keep things simple -- I wrote and edit this page using notepad and keep annoying javascript to a minimum. I usually turn off javascript when I use the internet to avoid annoying popups and ads. I wrote most of this site (among other things) between the time I graduated from University and becoming fully employed. Updates were very frequent, but now I just don't have the time to spend on it, although I do update it periodically. The good thing is I really like the setup and the way it looks so it won't need an overhaul until I become bored with it :)

So the main purpose of this site is as my homepage for all the links I visit and to host my pictures. I also wrote a random webpage generator that is really starting to get a lot of hits and works very very well. Being a physicist, I enjoy mathematics and statistics, and the stats page shows a lot of interesting trends of the internet.

I have registered a couple domain names, they are only $20 per year. One is my last name, which was only available in the .ca domain, and the other is mangle.ca, which is the name of my random link generator. Right now mangle.ca only points to my erics.freeshell.org account, but eventually I'll have everything hosted my own domain name. The good thing about registering those domain names now, is that they won't be taken and I can receive mail through them.
